As I sit here at the car wash savoring the fact that I will be sitting in a clean and spotless car in just a few moments, I began to think about how much I like clean cars but how I really don’t like to clean them!! It is probably because I was very spoiled by my amazing husband!! Of course I was also very spoiled by my father as well!! It’s not that I don’t like work as a matter a fact....I love work!!! (Too much some days!) The truth about the car is...this amazing team of people do a much better job than I do. They have a system and they have the right tools and my car is spotless when they are done!!
Its the same with JESUS!! I am spotless and clean but not of my doing!! I had no way of doing it myself!! He was the only One who could forgive my sins and change my life. Oh! I had tried many times before. Promises of “ I will do better next time” and “never again” and by the next week I was falling again!!! I was so frustrated and worn out! Why could “I” not do it? “I” would go to church...”I” would go to the altar...”I” would say all the right things! Surely God would give me the strength to live right!!!! Right?!? No!! That is not how it works!!
There were to many “I”’s in those statements!! Our life is changed by realizing we CAN’T do it at all! JESUS is the only way!! We must lay down our life and follow Him. We die to self and He becomes Lord. No negotiating...no holding back!! Day by day...all His! He is not there to make our life better...He is there for us to follow and obey ... then our life gets better!!!
So many times we approach God like the rich young ruler in Matthew 19.
“Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”” | Matthew 19:16
The rich young ruler was looking for an answer not a Savior, he was looking a formula or law to obey, not a Lord.
We are usually looking for a better life, a ticket to heaven or an answered prayer and that’s good and God offers those things but only after we give our life to Him!!
Thank you JESUS for being my sacrifice, for being enough and thank you that my salvation is not my work but yours. Take my life, use me, I am yours, not because I am good but because you are good!!
